What You Need to Do to Prepare for a New Washing Machine

After you've ordered your new washing machine, there are a few things that you can do while you wait for that all-important delivery.

Here, we share what you need to do to prepare for a new washing machine to make its installation seamless and hassle-free.

Plan the delivery route

A washing machine is not a small appliance, so delivery can be tricky if you’re not prepared. Firstly, let those delivering your machine know where to park. If possible, leave space on your driveway or save a nearby spot on your road.

Walk the route through your home that the washing machine will take. Ensure that it will fit through doorways and remove any obstacles, such as furniture, which might get in the way.

Ensure you have the right connections

If your new washing machine will be installed where there has been one before, it’s likely that the connections you need will be in place. However, it’s always best to check this before your delivery arrives - especially if you've moved into a new property. You should have three connections: a cold water supply, a waste water pipe, and an electrical connection. These should all be within a metre and a half of your washing machine.

If you spot any damage or find that one of these is missing, a plumber or electrician will be able to assist you.

Research your new washing machine

Although you’ll have done research prior to ordering your new washing machine, reading over any available information will mean that you know how to use it as soon as it arrives.

For example, if you’ve bought a smart washing machine, you’ll need to know how to connect it to your WiFi, or if you’ve bought a washer-dryer, you might want to make sure you’re clued up on how to switch between functions.

The more you know before it arrives, the more prepared you’ll feel once it’s been installed.
